Emma Watson Is Trying Her Luck in Horror Films!

When you talk about Emma Watson, you always remember the sweet and smart Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series. However, she’s back, but not in a Harry Potter film. She’s going to appear in a serious role, in what is going to be a horror/thriller – Regression. While her Harry Potter co-star, Daniel Radcliffe, has been a part of a horror film earlier (The Woman in Black), Watson will be a part of a horror film for the first time.

Alejandro Amenabar, who is famous for his work as the director of the popular horror film The Others, will be bringing this film to us this summer. He will be returning to the box office with a feature film after six years, and it sounds like a terrific film!

The plot of the film is eerie, and sets the tone for the summer release. Emma plays a young woman, who accuses her own father of sexually abusing her, who is played by David Dencik. The police are involved, and a detective (played by Ethan Hawke) is assigned to the case. There is also a twist – the father does not have any recollection whatsoever of the crime, and so, a psychiatrist is hired to help him remember. As the doctors delve deeper into the father’s mind, they unearth more than what they had suspected. The police discover that there are much more complicated truths that emerge after they hear the father’s stories, and are horrified. The trailer of the film was released on YouTube in February, and has over one and a half million hits on the site.

Regression is set the in year 1990, and is pitted in a time where Satanic ritual abuse is in the news. The trailer of the film actually makes you wonder if Hawke and Watson’s characters are merely pawns in a dangerous game played by Satanists, or whether it’s just a theory.

Director Alejandro Amenabar’s last few films were Agora and The Sea Inside, but what really put him on the map were his eerie and edgy films, like Open Your Eyes and The Others, which was a hit. This film will see Alejandro returning to familiar territory – the horror/mystery genre. With a very promising trailer, we can’t wait to see what he’s going to give us!
